Powerful.
Brutal. Strong. Heavy. Dramatic... and probably Roman like! These
words can describe the score for the film, directed by Ridley Scott,
that won 5 Oscars (including Best Motion Picture but not including
the Best Score award)!
By reading these
you shouldn't presume that we deal with a masterpiece. Instead we
deal with 2 only powerful tracks, with heavy brass, trombones,
strong action cues! Track 3 ("The Battle") is one of
them and it is the best of the entire score. It contains nice action
thematic parts and it is one of the most powerful tracks I've ever
heard! Thank God it lasts 10 minutes! Most of this track is reused
in track 13,too
As for the rest
of the CD tracks, now. Slow, dramatic and choral. Some of the most
enjoyable tracks are "Earth", "Sorrow",
"Slaves at "Rome" (pretty good),
"Patricide" and "Am I Not Merciful".
Zimmer, once
more, with the cooperation with Lisa Gerrard, created a score that
works pretty well for the film which is
also great by itself. Additionally, whoever is a Soundtrack
Maniac will notice some Zimmer's inspirations by Wagner.
So...if you haven't seen the movie go see it (prefer the DVD). If
you don't have the CD then run to buy it! |
