Another Ridley
Scott movie meant, for at least this year, another score by Hans
Zimmer. The movie wasn't bad, to be honest I liked it a lot, but the
soundtrack is what we call "ideal only for the motion
picture". For a listening experience? The collectors will love
it but you guys that want something nice instrumental
"music" to hear, you must forget it already!
The first track is a
promising opening for the whole score. It is actually a dialogue by
Anthony Hopkins that lasts 6 minutes (when I heard it for the first
time I thought it lasted only 2 min)! But that was the beginning of
the end. You will hear Hopkins's voice in most of the tracks. The
soundtrack also includes a few well-known pure classical tracks.
Zimmer uses either solo
piano, violins, strings, brass, church bells even female vocals. The
combination is pretty scary at some points.
It is my belief that the
best part of this CD is the greatly performed dialogues by Hopkins.
As for the tracks? Tracks 9 & 10 just save the day. As I already
mentioned the score works perfectly for the film but individually
doesn't work well for your ears! Buy it or not? If you are a
soundtrack maniac this is a must for your collection. If not better
buy the "Omen". |
