Jerry Goldsmith
has a magnificent gift. He always knows what instruments to choose
and what melodies to compose for movies with specific
particularities. "The Omen" for example was a great
thriller dealing with religion. Therefore he used vocals accompanied
by dark cellos and piano. "The Mummy" is another movie
with oriental particularities.
It is one of
those CDs that you will find tracks from pretty interesting to just
brilliant. Goldsmith is introducing us ancient Egypt through the marvelous
"Imhotep" and two tracks later gives plenty of action with
the "Tuareg Attack". After track 7 we get into the crypt!
For that reason Goldsmith converts his music into dark and thriller
like rhythms and synths effects. But honestly you won't find any
track that does not have a theme -Egyptian like always- for the
specific scene.
I really don't have more
to say. It is an epic size score, with Egyptian themes, love themes
and heroic themes. I loved the bass, the use of the horns and the
trombones. I also liked the action that most of the tracks have and
make the listener to take his camel and run!
So, take it or leave it! I heard it once
and I still hear it with the first chance. But now I am curious to
hear... Alan Silvestri's work for the sequel... |
