Most
action movies' scores are dealing with specific composers. The
"usual suspects" are James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer,
Graeme Revell and David Arnold. In this soundtrack we deal, once
more, with Hans Zimmer, trying to compose a satisfactory for the
movie score. The score is surely decent and appropriate for the film
but not original. I caught Zimmer to repeatedly duplicate melodies
from earlier works of his, from the "Rock" mostly"
-maybe that's the "Horner's Syndrome". That's all with the
weaknesses of the CD.
The
album comprises only five tracks but this shouldn't scare you. The
total timing of it is 55min. The composer uses a great combination
of voluminous percussions and Russian vocals with the accompaniment
of well-worked violin rythms. I must admit that the entire score is
very pleasant for hearing it often enough, regardless of the fact
that the best track (#2) is composed by Gavin Greenaway, the one of
the two conductors of the score.
In
conclusion, this CD is a pretty good choice for your collection but
not a reference CD to mention it as a milestone in the action movies
soundtracks section. |
