I was always a
fan of Howard's music. Every time he was composing music for a
totally different type of movie. From the Fugitive to Dinosaur, from
Primal Fear to the 6th Sense and finally the Unbreakable. He is like
Shaft. He never let us down.
As for this
score, it is something more than good. The opening track
is rhythmic (techno-like) cause it has some beats and drums combined with
the smooth melody provided by strings
and piano. This is the main theme which we will also here later in
the soundtrack, for example in tracks 6. The specific theme is
very dramatic and if you hear it over than two times then it will
stuck in your head for sure!
The entire score is
dark and moody but not as frightening as the score for the "6th
Sense". With this score Howard states clearly his ambition to
write more simple and thematic music that works for the film and our
CD player too. Best tracks for me our #1, 8 and 12.
If you liked
both movies that M .Night Shyalaman created and James Newton Howard
composed the music for them, then you will probably like this CD,
too. It is nothing to get very fond of, but I am sure that some of
you may love the use of the drum in the main theme! |
