Another underrated score. The only disadvantage of this album is its
length (29 minutes). Undoubtedly the movie demanded action &
suspense cues for music escort (cause "Volcano" is a disaster film)
and at this level Silvestri manages to create an awesome score that
I am positive that even Zimmer couldn't compose for the Gladiator.
And why is that?
Silvestri uses a small
variety of heavy brass and percussions. There some moments of that
score, especially from tracks 3 to 6 that fit ideally to the images
of lava that blow throughout the screen. Specifically track 6,
although track 4 has the smoothest and melodious prelude I ever
heard, which is called the "March of Lava" has music
sequences that if you'll close your eyes, even if you haven't seen
the film, you are positive that at that very moment lava was
marching in the avenues of a city. But, regarding the Zimmer
comment, the whole album could easily fit evenly ideally to an epic
war movie. There are moments that I imagine hundreds of Greek horses
to parade up in a hill or even infantries of two nations running to
each other on the battlefield (...remember Folkirk).
So, if you do not really
care about the small length of this CD then you should better buy it
to enjoy a couple of calm tracks and 6 tracks full of action with
great solos of heavy brass, bass drums, cellos and violins. |
